Mechanical Department Manager
Location: Scarborough, Maine
This is a working manager's role focused on balance of plant (BOP) and plant system lay-outs, retro-fits, expansions. You will be involved in everything associated with power plant systems (P&ID, heat balance, simple cycle or combined cycle, thermal or fossil) - a great role if you thrive on variety! You will be coordinating technical resources, reviewing documents, writing specs for boilers, steam generators, turbines, condensers, and managing a team of 15 engineers, drafters and designers.
Responsibilities:
Direct the activities of department engineering and technical staff to include resource planning and scheduling and follow up on work results
Possess a thorough knowledge of Industry standards and Mechanical Engineering design principles
Experience with power plant systems including simple cycle, combined cycle and biomass
Strong background in:
P&ID drawings
Equipment Specifications
General arrangements, isometrics and orthographic drawings
Heat balance studies
Thermal generation
Fossil fuels
Develop discipline specific engineering and technical standards, practices, procedures and techniques
Recruit, train, evaluate and retain qualified staff. Mentor young staff
Interact with clients
Participate in strategic planning initiatives
Serve as project manager or project engineer as needed
Contribute to department sales efforts to attract new business and expand current business
Qualifications:
BS degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
PE License required
Minimum of 12 - 20 years experience working in a multi-discipline, consulting engineering environment demonstrating increased levels of responsibility managing engineering staff, projects and clients.
Demonstrated ability to make decisions quickly, juggle multiple tasks, communicate in a clear and concise manner, and provide effective leadership.
Must be comfortable making group presentations to various audiences.
