Rotating Machinery Engineer - Protection

Seeking strong individual contributor to provide leadership guidance for well-established Power Generation
The primary responsibility of the Rotating Machinery Protection Engineer is to provide
support and oversight in areas of high technical complexity specific electric rotating machinery protection. You will function as the key rotating machinery protection engineer on assigned projects and provide overall project planning, coordination and supervision of project and consulting activities. You will be required to interface with clients, other company departments, outside consultants, contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers on technically related matters. Serve as Lead Engineer or technical reviewer on assigned projects.

Primary Responsibilities:
Subject matter expert providing technical leadership for the department in all areas of generator and motor protection.
Act as Lead Engineer on power plant projects especially focused on generator and motor protection.
Interpret complex plans and specifications and apply available information to ensure that all project requirements are satisfied. Develop and review project plans and schedules for successful completion.
Maintain familiarity and participate in development/revision of protection systems and electric machines industry standards and guides as well as IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI standards.
Prepare models and develop settings for a variety of protective equipment utilized in the protection of rotating equipment.
Review and approve detailed test plans of various types of protective relays used with generators, synchronous motors, induction motors, and drive systems.
Checking completed job for adequacy of design and documentation.
Perform complex economic analyses of engineering alternatives.
Be familiar with the company's drawing system and design and construction standards as well as applicable industry codes and practices.
May assist in the professional development, training, and evaluation of department personnel.

Position Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
BS degree in Electrical Engineering and 10 years related experience with electrical generators and motor as well as power plant electrical systems and equipment is required. Master's Degree and a PE License preferred.
Prior experience as a Rotating Machine Protection Specialist with a Manufacturer or Utility is preferred.
Demonstrate an understanding of the application, deign, and construction of various excitation systems such as rotating, static analog, static digital, compound as well as associated systems.
Demonstrate an understanding of the application of protection and control of generator and motor systems and equipment.
Demonstrate a proficiency in performing, understanding, and interpreting protection system tests.
Demonstrate an understanding of commissioning and testing generator and motor protection systems.
Be familiar with major protection system manufactures/products.
Must have good PC skills and experience with Adobe and Microsoft programs.
Willing to work flexible hours, overtime and be available for out-of-town travel.
